Jan 6, 2009 3:55 PM - What is the basis of this bill? Why are elder citizens being asked to contribute to a petition to reintroduce HR219? My Aunt keeps getting letters asking for money from The Seniors Center and other groups. -

In short, this legislation would prohibit the politicians in Washington from taking money out of the Social Security Trust Fund and spending it on other programs. H.R. 219, The Social Security Preservation Act would require investing the annual surplus of the funds in marketable interest-bearing obligations of the United States and certificates of deposit in depository institutions insured by the FDIC. The Fund could grow if the "Crooks in Washington" can't steal it! The legislation needs to be reintroduced this year. The Senior's Groups are trying to get the message out to all Americans. That takes money. Answered by a visitor on Apr 8, 2009 3:10 PM -
My first response to these kinds of things is to follow the money. My mother gets these all the time and the minute I see any connection to any religious organization, specially The Traditional Values Coalition, I throw it in the trash. In my opinion, these guys are hate mongers and do not deserve to be supported in any way. What's preventing them from taking your donations and using it to foster hate and oppression of groups they happen to not agree with? Do a little research and see what the Traditional Values Coalition really does and how unchristianly they behave. Jul 20, 2009 1:20 PM - What exactly are "marketable interest-bearing obligations"and how do they differ from the "Government Securities" in which that money is currently being invested -
