This absolutely does not mean that you can't transport horses for horse shows or other equine events. This means that horses can't be transported as "livestock" for the purpose of slaughter for human consumption. When you go to an event you are required to have a record of immunizations and also a negative coggins if you are crossing the states line for each horse. If you have registered animals you most likely will have a copy of their registration papers as well as individual owners will be recorded on the same paperwork. There is a huge difference in the paperwork you would have if they are show horses versus auction or kill buyer bought horses going to the slaughterhouse. Jan 29, 2009 11:05 AM - What makrs people think that horses should not be classified as livestock -

Apart from being grammatically mangled, your statement is irrelevant to this bill. H.R. 503 doesn't seek to reclassify horses at all - only to ban their slaughter and transport to said same. |
