since no other action was taken, this bill is more likely upheld as of now Answered by a visitor on Mar 27, 2009 10:05 AM -
The current administration is very interested in limiting access to this classification of weapons. The Mexico crisis is adding fuel to this fire. However, there are also bigger issues that require focus at the moment, for example, the economy. So, once the economy starts right-sizing itself, you can bet this will be introduced again. Mar 1, 2009 11:04 AM - why would they even consider a ban on these types of rifles when in most cases the ammo is weaker then most common hunting loads, and when most of these firearms are easier and sfer to use. -

as per 700 Club (aired 4/18/2009) Pres. Obama as said about reimposing the ban that it was "politically unfeasable to reimpose the assault weapon ban" Answered by a visitor on Oct 12, 2009 4:24 PM -
Because hunting rifles are designed for, and generally used for, a legally permissible purpose: hunting. Semi-automatic assault rifles, a group which includes submachine guns and other rapid-fire, high capacity weapons, are generally designed to effectively kill large groups of people for military use. It is debatable that they have any practical legal applications, and their legal distribution makes them widely available to gang members, terrorists, drug dealers and other criminals, who are statistically proven to be their primary civilian users. |
