them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee.

If this bill passes, all the US Cadet Nurses will be recognized as WWII veterans. So please contact your Representative in Congress and ask she/he to co-sponsor and support the HR 1522. Ask your family and friends to do the same ASAP. Shirley from Quincy May 22, 2009 4:14 PM - Most cadets are now over 80, all we would like are Military Base privileges. No $ involved. What's the delay? -

It's not clear what benefits will be awarded; first HR1522 has to get to out of committee and go to the House for a vote. Meanwhile, the more Co-sponsors the bill has the more likely it is to move. So, please contact your Representative and ask she or he to sign on as a co-sponsor and support the bill. Add your story, make the letter personal. It's best to send the letter by FAX or send it to their local office. Phone calls are fine too. I sure hope you can shop at the base maybe you can just go and tell them you were a US Cadet Nurse. You can get proof by contacting the Women in Military Service for America Memorial; 1-800-222-2294 Hope this helps. Shirley from Quincy Answered by a visitor on Sep 2, 2009 6:44 PM -
ALL surviving WWII Cadet Nurses are NOW between the ages of 83 and 101, as they had to be between the ages of 17 and 35 in 1943 when the program began 66 years ago.The delay is due to lack of support (co-sponsorship and public interest) and lack of a champion (someone who cares, AND who has political clout). The most co-sponsors (66 reps and 8 senators) was on the Corps 60th anniversary year in 2003. Equity bills have been introduced every session since 1996, with ALL being allowed to die in committee. When the similarly situated, non-military WASPs (Women's AirForces Service Pilots) gained much deserved full veteran recognition in 1977 through House Resolution 8701, they were championed by Senator Barry Goldwater, who was a former officer/pilot with the WASP organization; he had his failing WASP Senate bill attached to the House bill. The most recent honor for WASP veterans was passage of HR 2014 and SR 614, just this session, giving them congressional gold medals. |
