This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced
bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise
them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee.

Apr 9, 2009 1:03 PM - Does tis bill require the extra axle to be on the truck or the trailer? -

This requires the additional axle to be installed on the trailer. Do keep in mind this will not achieve an additional 17,000 of payload to increase GVWR from 80,000 to 97,000 lbs. The additional axle will take up approximately 2,000 lbs. of the weight increase, thus leaving you with 15,000 lbs. of additional payload. Also the added weight must be added to the trailer axle group as the tractor group must remain the same. Therefore most of your added payload would have to go at the rear of the trailer. The bill reads a 6-axle vehicle. You could add to the truck but usually it would be more effective to add the axle to the trailer, especially on a slider where you can vary the loading. We look forward to passage of H.R. 1799 as it will roll the trailer fleet, improve freight fuel mileage, help freight flow from Mexico to Canada, increase the popularity of trailer lift axles, and help us provide more suspensions: www.cushcorp.com |
