This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced
bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise
them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee.

As a licensed acupuncturist, this is my understanding of the challenges. Several states have been reimbursing for acupuncture treatments under workers compensation, yet there is a problem. It is not just the treatment of acupuncture in question here, which the NIH and the WHO have determined to be a viable and in fact, beneficial source of relief for many chronic disease, and PAIN managment. As a result of the need to relieve pain, an unescapable aspect of life, a push for pre-approved and incoming MDs (medical doctors) to provide the service ensued. This has reduced their services elsewhere and introduced them (MDs) into a profession (acupuncturist aka Doctor of Oriental Medicine, DOM)for which the MDs are not sufficently prepared. Therefore the efficacy of acupuncture as a means to relieve pain and treat chronic disease is becoming compromised. In addition, the other fields that MDs are leaving to shift focus, are being left unmet. We have need for a more integrative medicine process. HealthReform.gov is the place to share this goal.
