The government takes out a loan, just like we'd do, from a privately owned bank. This bank is called "The Fed", which in 1913 was granted the power to manufacture money from thin air. For the loan, we have to pay the privately owned bank interest. Our current national debt, 2/12/09, after adding the previous balance carried over from 2007 plus the bail outs and "incentives" and "stimulus" would no be around $17 trillion dollars. |
