Mr. BACCHUS of Florida submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Rules
RESOLUTION
Amending the Rules of the House of Representatives to allow open meetings and hearings to be closed for reasons of national security, and for other purposes.
- Resolved, That clause 2(g) of rule XI of the Rules of the House of Representatives is amended--
- (1) in the first sentence by striking ‘and with a majority present’ any by inserting ‘, approved by a majority of its total membership,’ after ‘rollcall vote’;
- (2) in the first sentence of subparagraph (1) by inserting ‘because disclosure of matters to be considered would endanger the national security, place an undue burden on the privacy rights of a private citizen, or jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or compromise a confidential source of any criminal investigation’ before the proviso; and
- (3) in the first sentence of paragraph (2) by striking ‘or would violate any law or rule of the House of Representatives’ and by inserting ‘, place an undue burden on the privacy rights of a private citizen, jeopardize an ongoing legal investigation or compromise a confidential source of any legal investigation, or violate paragraph (k)(5) of this clause’.
