A BILL
To amend title 18, United States Code, to add certain firearms related crimes to the list of crimes giving rise to a presumption of dangerousness for purposes of hearings on the release of defendants before trial.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘Gun Traffickers Pretrial Threat Assessment Act of 2000’.
SEC. 2. ADDITION OF CERTAIN FIREARMS RELATED CRIMES TO THE LIST OF CRIMES GIVING RISE TO A PRESUMPTION OF DANGEROUSNESS FOR PURPOSES OF HEARINGS ON THE RELEASE OF DEFENDANTS BEFORE TRIAL.
Section 3142(f)(1) of title 18, United States Code, is amended--
(1) by striking ‘or’ at the end of subparagraph (C) and redesignating existing subparagraph (D) as subparagraph (E);
(2) by inserting after subparagraph (C) the following:
‘(D) an offense under section 922(j), 922(k), 922(o), or 924(h) of this title or under section 5861(g), 5861(h), or 5861(i) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986; or’; and
(3) in the subparagraph redesignated as subparagraph (E) by this section, by striking ‘(C)’ each place it appears and inserting ‘(D)’.
