A BILL
To amend the Fair Housing Act to modify certain requirements for the design and construction of certain multifamily housing.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘Fair Building Act of 2000’.
SEC. 2. FAIR HOUSING ACT AMENDMENT.
Section 804 of the Fair Housing Act is amended--
(1) in subsection (f)(2)(C), by inserting ‘except as provided in paragraph (10),’ after ‘(C)’; and
(2) by adding at the end the following:
‘(10) The requirements of paragraph (3)(C) shall not apply with respect to any individual dwelling unit that has been so designed and constructed that it can readily be converted to comply with those requirements, and is so converted upon the request of a potential occupant of that particular unit.’.
