A BILL

To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make permanent the deduction of State and local general sales taxes.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. DEDUCTION OF STATE AND LOCAL GENERAL SALES TAXES MADE PERMANENT.

    (a) In General- Paragraph 5 of section 164(b) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to general sales taxes) is amended by striking subparagraph (I).

    (b) Effective Date- The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2007.
