March 8th has become known as International Women's Day for the last century. On International Women's Day people "come together to celebrate a common struggle for women's equality, justice, and peace." According to the resolution's findings, there are over 3 trillion in the world, which make up 51 percent of the global population. Women also represent 80 percent of the world's micro-borrowers and twelve women are chief executive officers of Fortune 500 companies.
H.Res. 194 resolves that the House of Representatives:
• "Supports the goals of International Women's Day;
• "Recognizes and honors the women in the United States and in other countries who have fought and continue to struggle for gender equality and women's rights;
• "Reaffirms its commitment to ending discrimination and violence against women and girls, to ensuring the safety and welfare of women and girls, and to pursuing policies that guarantee the basic rights of women and girls both in the United States and in other countries; and
• Encourages the President to:
o Reaffirm his commitment to pursue policies to protect the health and rights of women and girls; and
o Issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe International Women's Day with appropriate programs and activities."
The House Democratic Caucus does not provide summaries of bills.
So, yes, we display the House Republican Conference’s summaries when available even if we do not have a Democratic summary available. That’s because we feel it is better to give you as much information as possible, even if we cannot provide every viewpoint.
We’ll be looking for a source of summaries from the other side in the meanwhile.
