A press release from the bill’s sponsor states: Working as a field representative for Congressman Hunter, Mac covered veterans, defense and law enforcement issues in the El Cajon office. On December 20, 2011, Mac was involved in a car crash that took his life. Soon after, VFW Post 3783, of which Mac was a life member, recommended the Ramona Post Office be named in his honor.
“Mac was an asset to the people of San Diego and the Ramona community,’ said Congressman Hunter. ‘After serving in the Navy for 22 years, Mac continued to serve the public in different ways and he was very well-known and respected for his outstanding character and commitment to helping others. The Commander of Post 3783, John ‘Pontiac’ Hine, said it best: ‘One of Mac’s traits was that he was always on duty.’ Naming a post office after Mac is a way of honoring his life and will serve to remind anyone who enters its doors of Mac’s service to the nation and our community.”
H.R. 4062 would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1444 Main Street in Ramona, California, as the "Nelson 'Mac' MacWilliams Post Office Building."
According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), costs related to post office designations, which include the cost of changing the name on the building, signs, and maps, are not significant.
The House Democratic Caucus does not provide summaries of bills.
So, yes, we display the House Republican Conference’s summaries when available even if we do not have a Democratic summary available. That’s because we feel it is better to give you as much information as possible, even if we cannot provide every viewpoint.
We’ll be looking for a source of summaries from the other side in the meanwhile.
