Background

2nd Lieutenant Spencer Byrd Powers, Jr., of Cary, Mississippi, was killed in action in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam, on February 8, 1968 – four days shy of his 23rd birthday.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, United States Army.
