Both my wife and myself have pre-existing conditions and I am self employed. Our only option for health care coverage in Alabama is with AHIP. They insure high risk individuals at virtually unaffordable premiums. As of 01/2010 our combined premium cost monthly will exceed $ 1400.00 per month and it is with an HMO. My question is this: If reform is passed and the states have the option to opt out will we be able to search for more affordable coverage across state lines or are we at the mercy of the state law makers even if it is not in our best interest? -

We are a small business w/ 8=9 employees. In the past, we tried to offer health insurance for them paying almost half of cost, however, our employees refused it because they did not want money taken out of their checks.
If we have to insure them, will we have to pay full cost for them, if they refuse to participate/have money taken out of check? -

I was terminated on Dec 5th 2008 but since my company insurance doesn't run out until Dec 31st, 2009, my COBRA doesn't kick in until Jan 1, 2010 which disqualifies me from the subsidy. Under these new terms, when they say they're exending it to June 2010, are they only referring to people who lost their jobs between Jan 1st and June 30th, 2010, or are they saying that if you become COBRA eligible before June 2010, you would now qualify for the subsidy. Theres a big difference there. It seems a bit unfair to extend the subsidy to newly unemployed people without ensuring that all those who lost their jobs in the original timeframe (Sept 1,2008-Dec 31,2009) are also eligible. -

Is it true that home owners must have a license for their own home? -
Show 1 Answer
A1: No, of course this is not true... just more lies and misinformation being spread as attempted scare tactics.
As passed, the bill does not create a federal energy audit requirement for real-estate property. It exempts existing homes and buildings from any federal guidelines for new-construction energy labeling. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be prohibited from regulating carbon emissions from residential and commercial buildings under the Clean Air Act.
The bill would create a national building code with a goal of improving energy efficiency for *new* construction. States would have a year to bring their codes in compliance with the federal code.... Read More
Further, states would have the option of voluntarily participating in a federal grant program (Retrofit for Energy and Environmental Performance ? REEP) that homeowners could access for assistance with energy-efficiency improvements to their homes.
Most of the people making these claims never even read the language in the bill anyway. ;) [Answer submitted on Nov 20, 2009 11:39 AM]
