Mr. SANGMEISTER (for himself, Mr. LIPINSKI, and Mr. COSTELLO) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary


A BILL

To amend title 28, United States Code, to create a southern division in the Northern Judicial District of Illinois.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. CREATION OF SOUTHERN DIVISION.

    Section 93(a) of title 28, United States Code, is amended--

      (1) in paragraph (1) by striking ‘Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, La Salle, and Will’ and inserting ‘Kane, and Lake’; and

      (2) by adding at the end the following:

      ‘(3) The Southern Division comprises the counties of Grundy, Kendall, La Salle, and Will.

      Court for the Southern Division shall be held at Joliet.’.

SEC. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.

    (a) IN GENERAL- This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall take effect 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.

    (b) PENDING CASES NOT AFFECTED- This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall not affect any action commenced before the effective date of this Act and pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on such date.

    (c) JURIES NOT AFFECTED- This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall not affect the composition, or preclude the service, of any grand or petit jury summoned, empaneled, or actually serving in the Northern Judicial District of Illinois on the effective date of this Act.
