IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

April 29, 2003

Mr. FROST submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Government Reform


RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and achievements of Dallas Morning News Reporter Sam Attlesey and expressing sorrow on the occasion of his death.

Whereas Sam Attlesey joined the Dallas Morning News in 1975 as a reporter with reputation for fair, accurate, and aggressive coverage of Texas politics, earning him the respect of both his colleagues and the politicians he covered;

Whereas Sam Attlesey was undoubtedly a true Texas original and his enthusiasm for Texas politics was infectious;

Whereas Sam Attlesey worked tirelessly at his profession and set a high example for his colleagues, many of whom aspired to make their mark in Texas as he had;

Whereas Sam Attlesey was a legendary reporter and a well-respected member of the political community, who devoted his entire life to well-rounded and fair journalism;

Whereas Sam Attlesey was a true Texas patriot and a man who loved his State and cherished its rich history; and

Whereas Sam Attlesey made an impression on anyone that ever met him or read his colorful commentaries on Texas politics: Now, therefore, be it

    Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

      (1) honors the life and achievements of Dallas Morning News reporter Sam Attlesey;

      (2) expresses profound sorrow on the occasion of Sam Attlesey’s death and extends condolences to his family;

      (3) expresses its appreciation for and respect of Sam Attlesey’s exemplary record as a reporter in Texas; and

      (4) esteems Sam Attlesey as a role model for future generations in Texas and the United States.
