Should the U.S. support the United Nations’ main sexual and reproductive health organization?
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the global organization’s branch devoted to reproductive health issues worldwide. While they work on some issues that almost everybody in America would support, such as ending child marriage and female genital mutiliation, they also focus on some issues that are more controversial — notably abortion.
UNFPA neither officially promotes nor officially condemns abortion. Their official position on the issue is to “prevent recourse to abortion by promoting universal access to voluntary family planning, and deal with the consequences of unsafe abortions to save women’s lives.”
