Passed in response to the pandemic, March’s $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated about $14 billion for colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher education.

The money was allocated to each institution based on a combination of total enrollment and the number of Pell Grant recipients. The five colleges receiving the most money were Arizona State with $63.5 million, Penn State with $54.9 million, Rutgers with $54.1 million, Central Florida with $51.0 million, and Miami Dade with $49.0 million.
