The payroll tax currently stands at 6.2% for both employers and employees, a rate unchanged from last year. The revenue is used to pay for Social Security.

President Trump has proposed a payroll tax cut as an economic rejuvenation measure during the pandemic. “We’re not doing anything unless we get a payroll tax cut,” Trump said on Fox News. “That is so important to the success of our country and to the following year.”

The Keep Employee’s Earnings Protected (KEEP) Act would eliminate payroll taxes for both employees and employers for three months.
