When the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was enacted in March, Republican legislators advocated for some of the stimulus package’s loans to go towards fossil fuel businesses.

It appears likely that the Small Business Administration, which determines loan eligibility, would likely grant most or all of these requests. White House agencies have issued other fossil fuel-friendly decisions in the wake of the coronavirus, such as the Environmental Protection Agency suspending most enforcement of environmental laws since late March.
