Air America was an airline secretly owned and operated by the CIA from 1950 to 1976. Operating from the beginning of the Korean War to the end of the Vietnam War, the airline often engaged in operations from dropping food to emergency medevac missions. The airline may be most famous in the public imagination for the iconic 1975 photo where an Air America helicopter evacuated USAID employees as Saigon fell.
(There is also some evidence that Air America might have flown drugs, including opium.)
