Since 1828, the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) has long been tasked with protecting the U.S. Capitol Building and the surrounding complex. While it has expanded in its size and scope through the years, now comprising more than 2,300 officers and a $460 million budget, it has always remained solely focused on Washington, D.C.
