About the bill

Six of one, half a dozen of the other?

Context

Some Democratic-led blue cities have started mandating proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to access certain indoor venues.

In August, New York City became the first U.S. city to mandate proof of COVID-19 vaccination for indoor activities including eating at restaurants, exercising at gyms, and attending performances including Broadway and Brooklyn Nets games. Other major cities including Los AngelesSan Francisco, and New Orleans followed suit.

No state has yet implemented a statewide vaccine passport mandate for all indoor activities in the same way, although some states have done so for specific professions or areas. In August, California became the first state to require the COVID-19 vaccine for all in-person schoolteachers and staff, including for private schools.
