A BILL
To amend the Taiwan Assurance Act of 2020 to require
periodic reviews and updated reports relating to the De-
partment of State’s Taiwan Guidelines.
1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-
2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
3 SECTION 1. PERIODIC REVIEWS AND UPDATED REPORTS
4 OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE’S TAIWAN
5 GUIDELINES UNDER THE TAIWAN ASSUR-
6 ANCE ACT OF 2020.
7 Section 315 of the Taiwan Assurance Act of 2020
8 (Public Law 116–260; 134 Stat. 3100) is amended—

9 (1) in subsection (c)(1), by adding at the end
10 before ‘‘; and’’ the following: ‘‘and any successor

1 document or related document disseminating such
2 guidance’’; and
3 (2) by adding at the end the following:
4 ‘‘(d) PERIODIC REVIEWS AND UPDATED REPORTS.—
5 ‘‘(1) IN GENERAL.—For as long as the Depart-
6 ment of State’s guidance that governs relations with
7 Taiwan described in subsection (a) remains in effect,
8 the Secretary of State shall conduct periodic reviews
9 as described in subsection (a) and submit updated
10 reports as described in subsection (c) not less fre-
11 quently than every two years following the submis-
12 sion of the initial report described in subsection (c).
13 ‘‘(2) MATTERS TO BE INCLUDED.—Such up-
14 dated reports shall include—
15 ‘‘(A) a description of how the guidance
16 meets the goals and objectives described in
17 paragraphs (1), (2), and (3) of subsection (b);
18 and
19 ‘‘(B) an identification of opportunities and
20 plans to lift self-imposed restrictions on rela-
21 tions with Taiwan.’’.
