Newly elected freshman Rep. George Santos (R-NY3) was hailed as a Republican rising star. At the relatively young congressional age of 34, he flipped a district represented by a Democrat.

That positive aura all came crashing down about a month and a half after the election, when *New York Times *journalists revealed Santos lied about numerous elements of his biography.

Among other details, he claimed to have been a volleyball star on a championship team of a college he never attended, worked at a company he never worked for, said his grandparents escaped the Holocaust when they didn’t, and claimed his mother died …
