Context
In 2019, California Gov. Gavin Newson (D) signed the College Student Right to Access Act into law, requiring the 34 institutions in the University of California and California State public school systems offer abortion pills at no cost to students. It’s the first state law of its kind.
The state Senate passed it by 29–11 and the state Assembly by 55–19. The law took effect on January 1 of this year.
