Lyle was the representative for Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1815 to 1817.

He was previously the representative for Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district as a Republican from 1813 to 1815; the representative for Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district as a Republican from 1811 to 1813; and the representative for Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district as a Republican from 1809 to 1811.
