He was previously a senator from Mississippi as a Democrat from 1854 to 1859; the representative for Mississippi’s 4th congressional district as a States Rights from 1851 to 1853; the representative for Mississippi’s 4th congressional district as a Democrat from 1849 to 1851; the representative for Mississippi’s 4th congressional district as a Democrat from 1847 to 1849; and the representative for Mississippi as a Democrat from 1839 to 1841.
