Long was a senator from Kansas and was a Republican. He served from 1903 to 1909.

He was previously the representative for Kansas’s 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1901 to 1903; the representative for Kansas’s 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1899 to 1901; and the representative for Kansas’s 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1895 to 1897.
