Holmes was a senator from Mississippi and was a Republican. He served from 1820 to 1825.
He was previously the representative for Virginia’s 4th congressional district as a Republican from 1807 to 1809; the representative for Virginia’s 4th congressional district as a Republican from 1805 to 1807; the representative for Virginia’s 4th congressional district as a Republican from 1803 to 1805; the representative for Virginia’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1801 to 1803; the representative for Virginia’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1799 to 1801; and the representative for Virginia’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1797 to 1799.
