Wood was the representative for New York and was a Democrat. He served from 1881 to 1883.

He was previously the representative for New York’s 9th congressional district as a Democrat from 1877 to 1881; the representative for New York’s 9th congressional district as a Democrat from 1875 to 1877; the representative for New York’s 10th congressional district as a Democrat from 1873 to 1875; the representative for New York’s 9th congressional district as a Democrat from 1867 to 1873; the representative for New York’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1863 to 1865; and the representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district as a Democrat from 1841 to 1843.

Misconduct

Wood faced an allegation of describing Reconstruction legislation as a “monstrosity” on January 15, 1868 and that day the House of Representatives censured him, 114-39.
