Pierce was President of the United States and was a Democratic. He served from 1853 to 1857.

He was previously a senator from New Hampshire as a Democrat from 1837 to 1843; the representative for New Hampshire as a Jackson from 1835 to 1837; and the representative for New Hampshire as a Jackson from 1833 to 1835.
