Gilchrist was the representative for Iowa’s 6th congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1943 to 1944.
He was previously the representative for Iowa’s 8th congressional district as a Republican from 1933 to 1942; and the representative for Iowa’s 10th congressional district as a Republican from 1931 to 1933.
