He was previously the representative for Maine’s 5th congressional district as a Republican from 1857 to 1859; the representative for Maine’s 5th congressional district as an Ind. Republican-Democrat from 1855 to 1857; the representative for Maine’s 5th congressional district as a Whig from 1853 to 1855; and the representative for Maine’s 6th congressional district as a Whig from 1851 to 1853.
