He was previously a senator from Kentucky as a Democrat from 1883 to 1889; a senator from Kentucky as a Democrat from 1877 to 1883; the representative for Kentucky’s 7th congressional district as a Democrat from 1873 to 1875; and the representative for Kentucky’s 7th congressional district as a Democrat from 1867 to 1873.
