He was previously a senator from Arkansas as a Democrat from 1885 to 1891; the representative for Arkansas’s 2nd congressional district as a Democrat from 1883 to 1885; and the representative for Arkansas’s 2nd congressional district as a Democrat from 1881 to 1883.
