McDill was a senator from Iowa and was a Republican. He served from 1881 to 1883.

He was previously the representative for Iowa’s 8th congressional district as a Republican from 1875 to 1877; and the representative for Iowa’s 8th congressional district as a Republican from 1873 to 1875.
