Van Zandt was the representative for Pennsylvania’s 20th congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1953 to 1962.

He was previously the representative for Pennsylvania’s 22nd congressional district as a Republican from 1947 to 1952; and the representative for Pennsylvania’s 23rd congressional district as a Republican from 1939 to 1944.
