Eden was the representative for Illinois’s 17th congressional district and was a Democrat. He served from 1885 to 1887.

He was previously the representative for Illinois’s 15th congressional district as a Democrat from 1877 to 1879; the representative for Illinois’s 15th congressional district as a Democrat from 1875 to 1877; the representative for Illinois’s 15th congressional district as a Democrat from 1873 to 1875; and the representative for Illinois’s 7th congressional district as a Democrat from 1863 to 1865.
