Mitchell was a senator from Oregon and was a Republican. He served from 1901 to 1905.
He was previously a senator from Oregon as a Republican from 1891 to 1897; a senator from Oregon as a Republican from 1885 to 1891; and a senator from Oregon as a Republican from 1873 to 1879.
Misconduct
Mitchell faced an allegation of using political influence in the federal government to help clients with land claims. In 1905, his indictment and conviction occured during Senate recess. On Dec. 8, 1905, he died.
