Wentworth was the representative for Illinois’s 1st congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1865 to 1867.

He was previously the representative for Illinois’s 2nd congressional district as a Democrat from 1853 to 1855; the representative for Illinois’s 4th congressional district as a Democrat from 1849 to 1851; the representative for Illinois’s 4th congressional district as a Democrat from 1847 to 1849; the representative for Illinois’s 4th congressional district as a Democrat from 1845 to 1847; and the representative for Illinois’s 4th congressional district as a Democrat from 1843 to 1845.
