Kent was a senator from Maryland and was a Whig. He served from 1833 to 1837.

He was previously the representative for Maryland’s 2nd congressional district as an Adams from 1825 to 1827; the representative for Maryland’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1823 to 1825; the representative for Maryland’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1821 to 1823; the representative for Maryland’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1819 to 1821; and the representative for Maryland’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1811 to 1815.
