Nicholson was the representative for Maryland’s 7th congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1805 to 1807.

He was previously the representative for Maryland’s 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1803 to 1805; the representative for Maryland’s 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1801 to 1803; and the representative for Maryland’s 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1799 to 1801.
