He was previously a senator from Vermont as a Republican from 1885 to 1891; a senator from Vermont as a Republican from 1873 to 1885; a senator from Vermont as a Republican from 1867 to 1873; the representative for Vermont’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1865 to 1867; the representative for Vermont’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1863 to 1865; the representative for Vermont’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1861 to 1863; the representative for Vermont’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1859 to 1861; the representative for Vermont’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican from 1857 to 1859; and the representative for Vermont’s 2nd congressional district as an Ind. Republican-Democrat from 1855 to 1857.
