He was previously a senator from Mississippi as a Democrat from 1877 to 1883; the representative for Mississippi’s 1st congressional district as a Democrat from 1875 to 1877; the representative for Mississippi’s 1st congressional district as a Democrat from 1873 to 1875; the representative for Mississippi’s 1st congressional district as a Democrat from 1859 to 1861; and the representative for Mississippi’s 1st congressional district as a Democrat from 1857 to 1859.
