Fenton was a senator from New York and was a Liberal Republican. He served from 1869 to 1875.
He was previously the representative for New York’s 31st congressional district as a Republican from 1863 to 1865; the representative for New York’s 33rd congressional district as a Republican from 1861 to 1863; the representative for New York’s 33rd congressional district as a Republican from 1859 to 1861; the representative for New York’s 33rd congressional district as a Republican from 1857 to 1859; and the representative for New York’s 33rd congressional district as a Democrat from 1853 to 1855.
