Johnson, a Democrat, was a senator from Arkansas from 1855 to 1861.

He was previously a senator from Arkansas (1853-1855); the representative for Arkansas's 1st congressional district (1851-1853); the representative for Arkansas's 1st congressional district (1849-1851); and the representative for Arkansas's 1st congressional district (1847-1849).
