Richardson was a senator from Illinois and was a Democrat. He served from 1863 to 1865.

He was previously the representative for Illinois’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1861 to 1863; the representative for Illinois’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1855 to 1857; the representative for Illinois’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1853 to 1855; the representative for Illinois’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1851 to 1853; the representative for Illinois’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1849 to 1851; and the representative for Illinois’s 5th congressional district as a Democrat from 1847 to 1849.
