H.R. 2547: Veterans Expanded Trucking Opportunities Act of 2017

This was a vote to pass H.R. 2547 in the House. This vote was taken under a House procedure called “suspension of the rules” which is typically used to pass non-controversial bills. Votes under suspension require a 2/3rds majority. A failed vote under suspension can be taken again.

The FAST Act created an alternative process for physicians and doctors of osteopathy at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to become Certified Medical Examiners to perform physical examinations on eligible veterans and then issue the medical certificates required to operate a commercial motor vehicle. H.R. 2547 would expand this pool of eligible medical professionals to include advanced practical nurses, chiropractors, physician assistants, and other qualified medical professionals.
